Officials: At least 3 hurt in NH avalanche

NORTH CONWAY, N.H (AP) — Authorities say at least three people have been injured in an avalanche on New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

WMUR-TV reports that ambulance crews from several towns responded to the avalanche on Tuckerman Ravine Thursday evening. The extent of the victims’ injuries was not immediately known.

The Mount Washington Avalanche Center issued an avalanche warning earlier in the day.

A spokesman for the National Weather Service says there were snow showers and gusty winds in the area on Thursday and that the highest temperature was 32 degrees.

Tuckerman Ravine was the site of a fatal accident in April when a 67-year-old Boston man lost his footing and fell hundreds of feet into a crevasse while hiking with his son. His body was not recovered until late May.
