Armed robber holds up Methuen store

METHUEN — Police are probing a reported armed robbery of the Route 110 Convenience Store at 196 East St. shortly before 7 p.m. last night.

A store clerk told police that the robber, with his face partially concealed, walked up to the sales counter and pointed a black handgun at him and demanded, “Open the cash drawer.”

The clerk said he obeyed the gunman’s order, opening up the lottery and the sales drawers and placing them on the counter, according to police.

The robber put the cash in a dark plastic bag and fled through the front door. A witness saw him leave the store in an unknown vehicle, but was unable to provide a description of the vehicle.

Several police officers, joined by a K-9 unit, searched the area near the store, but were unable to develop any leads.

Police described the gunman as man in his 20s, thin to medium build, about 5-foot-10. His face was covered with a Patriots hoodie, with a multicolored jacket over the hoodie and a scarf or bandanna over his mouth. The clerk said he noticed the suspect had a mustache or goatee.

Police recovered a jacket on the side of the road that matches the gunman's jacket. Investigators said they do not know how much money was taken in the robbery.
