Brown pondering run for governor

BOSTON Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown said he’s thinking about running for governor of Massachusetts next year.

The Republican told WFXT-TV he hasn’t made any decisions, but was going to “keep all options open” about his political future,

“Of course I’m thinking about it,” Brown said during the interview Monday night. “I’m thinking about a lot of different things. But right now the best thing I can do for myself and for my piece of mind and I think for the people of Massachusetts is just to hang tight and recharge and be active.”

In the interview, Brown said he is learning how to play guitar and speak Spanish while mulling his professional and political options.

Brown, first elected to the Senate in a 2010 special election, was defeated last year by Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren during his re-election bid.

In the interview, Brown blamed his loss in part on President Barack Obama’s political coattails in the state. He said he would have done nothing different in his campaign.

Brown also suggested that his decision to not run in the upcoming special Senate election had to with the prospect of having to defend the seat again next year if he won.

Fox News Channel recently hired Brown as a contributor.

During the interview, Brown also blamed what he called a “pocket tweet” for a garbled word he sent out on his Twitter account last month. He said he had tweeted a series of messages before putting the phone in his pocket.

Brown said he was not drunk when the word “Bqhatevwr” appeared on his Twitter account. He said the last time he was drunk was at his bachelor’s party nearly three decades ago.

Brown stunned even his fellow Republican Party members last month when he annnounced he would not run for the U.S. Senate seat held until recently by Secretary of State John Kerry. Republicans are now scrambling to secure candidates for the seat, with Rep. Dan. Winslow, Cohasset businessman Gabriel Gomez and former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan gathering nomination signatures. Brown acknowledged he’s considering a run for governor.

Brown said that on election night, he knew he had lost to challenger Elizabeth Warren by about 9:30 p.m.

Brown also pushed back at Democratic operative’s assertions that his barn coat cost $600, saying it cost $150.
