Police: Woman tried to run down 2 others

WINDHAM – A woman who allegedly tried to run over her former boyfriend and a pregnant woman faces second-degree assault and child endangerment charges.

Amanda Koytila, 22, of Tewksbury is free on $5,000 cash bail pending a hearing tomorrow in 10th Circuit Court in Salem.

She is charged with second-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault and conduct placing another in danger, all Class B felonies.

She also is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a Class B misdemeanor, as well as reckless operation and conduct after an accident, violation level offenses.

The felonies carry potential jail time of up to seven years. The misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in jail.

Windham police arrested Koytila the night of March 3 and are continuing their investigation.

Police Capt. Mike Caron said those involved know each other and have not cooperated fully with police.

Court records show that Windham police responded to the Interstate 93 underpass on Route 111 about 8 p.m. for a report of an accident involving a pedestrian.

They met Jordan Brewer, 18, and Briana Dempsey, 19, who told officers they had followed Koytila and Jason Morton, 23, of Derry to Windham from a Hess gas station in Salem. Court records did not indicate why.

They reported a minivan driven by Koytila was parked on the side of the highway. They pulled in front of the minivan, Brewer got out and started walking toward the vehicle. Morton, meanwhile, had left the minivan and was walking toward their vehicle, according to court documents.

Koytila allegedly drove toward the two of them at “a high rate of speed,” court records said.

Morton told police he was struck by the minivan as he tried to jump over the guardrail. He complained of leg and back injuries.

“He’s up, walking around,” Caron said.

Court records indicated Brewer had a close escape.
