Danville man gets 5 to 10 years for negligent homicide

BRENTWOOD — A Danville man was sentenced this afternoon to five to 10 years in prison for causing a crash in Derry that killed his best friend two years ago.

Cameron Dearborn, 19, was convicted by a jury March 29 in Rockingham Superior Court. The jury found Dearborn guilty of negligent homicide, aggravated driving while intoxicated and negligent homicide-DWI.

Dearborn's attorney, Kenneth Bernard, failed to convince the jury his client wasn't driving the car that crashed and killed fellow Pinkerton Academy classmate Korey Traficante on November, 20, 2010.

The Toyota Saturn hit a stone wall and tree before flipping over on Frost Road, down the street from where Dearborn lived at the time. The two had just left the home in a car borrowed from a friend.

During the five-day trial, Dearborn admitted on the witness stand he had been drinking before the crash but said he didn’t remember what happened. The defense contended that Traficante — not Dearborn — was the driver.

Dearborn, who had been free on $5,000 cash bail, was immediately taken into custody after the verdict was read.

The maximum penalty was seven and a half to 15 years in prison for negligent homicide and three and a half to seven years for aggravated DWI.
