Morning standoff ends without incident

METHUEN — An elderly man who threatened to shoot the next person through his door was secured without incident this morning and transported to the hospital.

City police blocked off the 700 block of Lowell Street between the National Guard Armory and the Dracut line while attempting to contact the man, whom police said was armed. He eventually came out of the house unarmed on his own.

The regional SWAT was called to assist, but was cancelled before they arrived. No one was injured during the roughly two-hour incident.
