ANDOVER — Police are “working diligently” to identify two masked gunmen who robbed a 19-year-old local woman on the edge of downtown Thursday night.
The woman reported being robbed of her purse at gun-point by two men as she was walking home from work at about 9:30 p.m., Andover police Lt. Edward Guy said. The robbery reportedly occurred in the area of Main Street near Locke Street, according to a press release
The victim told police both men were armed with handguns and ran up behind her, the release said. She described the suspects as about 6 feet tall, of thin build and appearing to be between 17 and 23 years old.
They were wearing dark pants and black tops with the hoods pulled up, with handkerchiefs covering their faces, police said. Neither sounded as if they had accents, the victim told police.
Police spent yesterday “doing some canvassing of the area, re-interviewing witnesses,” Guy said.
“We don’t have any further information regarding the incident, but they’re working diligently, working some leads they do have,” Guy said.
The victim works downtown and was walking home at the time of the robbery, according to Guy.
The call initially came in from a bystander who was approached by the victim, according to police reports.
Police are investigating the incident and following all leads. Anyone with information can contact Andover Police Detective Mike Lane at 978-470-3864.
