Methuen fugitive nabbed in Bronx bathroom

He was wanted for beating woman in Salem, N.H. motel

A Methuen man sought for the beating and attempted murder of a woman in a Salem, N.H. motel over the weekend was arrested today in the Bronx, N.Y.

Members of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section found Walton F. Valentin hiding in the bathroom of a deli on Anderson Avenue in the Bronx, according to a statement released by the Massachusetts State Police.

Massachusetts State Troopers John Strazzullo and Brian Bandini, along with members of the New York Police Department’s fugitive unit, were in on the arrest.

Valentin, 29, of 41 Hardy St., Methuen, had been on the run since Saturday night when he allegedly jumped into his girlfriend's minivan in Lawrence and held her at gunpoint.

They ended up at the Park View Inn on South Broadway in Salem where he allegedly pointed a gun at the terrified woman and pulled the trigger. But the gun jammed and did not fire. He then allegedly chocked her, and beat her unconscious with the weapon.

Valentin then drove away in the minivan which was found abandoned in Andover, police said.

Valentin today was taken to an NYPD station in the Bronx for booking. He will be held pending proceedings in the New York judicial system.

He will face charges in New Hampshire in connection with his assault of the woman, to include attempted murder and aggravated assault. He will also face charges in Massachusetts in connection with assaults of the same woman in October, to include multiple counts of assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful carrying of a firearm, violation of protective order, and threats to commit a crime, as well as a single home invasion count.
