Pickup truck hits 91-year--old in Sandown; she's recovering

SANDOWN — A 91-year-old Salem woman is recovering from injuries she suffered Wednesday afternoon when struck by a pickup truck while crossing Main Street.

Celeste Kalpokas was flown by helicopter to Boston Medical Center, where she was in stable condition yesterday, according to Sandown Police Sgt. Aurie Roy.

The accident, which is still under investigation, occurred near 127 Main St. about 4:30 p.m., Roy said.

Kalpokas was struck by a Ford pickup driven by Lisa Eaton, 51, of Kingston, Roy said.

Eaton initially waited for Kalpokas to cross the street, Roy said.

Kalpokas “waved the vehicle on as if she wasn’t going to cross, but then she did cross,” Roy said.

The Sandown Fire Department also responded to the crash.
