LAWRENCE - Robbers usually just want the cash, but this one ran out of the store with the entire cash register.
Police are looking for a man who robbed Super Liquors at 36 So. Broadway around 9 p.m. last Thursday.
A woman working there said a man came in and told her to open the register. Due to a language barrier, the woman wouldn't open the cash drawer. So the robber grabbed the entire cash register and ran from the store, police said.
A surveillance video in the store clearly shows the man talking to the store clerk; picking up the register from the counter and bolting out the door with it.
A man riding his bike in the area told police he said he saw a "thin white male wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt" run around the corner carrying a cash register. The robber dropped the cash register but quickly picked it up and continued running. The suspect may have jumped into a waiting tan Chevrolet Malibu, police said.
The cash register had not been recovered as of yesterday, and it was not known how much money was in it.
The robber was not believed to have a weapon.
The robber is described as a tall, thin white male who was wearing khaki pants, a zippered dark gray hooded sweatshirt with a gray painted star on the back of the sweatshirt. On his head, he wore a pink checkered Fedora.
Before the robbery, while he was in the store, the man was pulling on his shirt sleeves trying to cover his hands. He also put on dark sunglasses before the heist.
It's believed he ran west toward Shattuck Street, police said.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at (978) 794-5900, ext. 625.
