BREAKING: Convicted rapist sentenced to up to 25 years

LAWRENCE - Convicted rapist Kenneth Poirier was sentenced today to 16 to 25 years in state prison.

Poirier, dubbed the "red car rapist," was sentenced by Judge Mary Ames in Lawrence Superior Court. He faced a maximum sentence of life in state prison.

Poirier, 42, formerly of Methuen, who has also lived in Merrimac and Pelham, N.H., will serve no less than 16 years and no more than 25 years.

He was convicted yesterday of the aggravated rape of a woman he picked up at gunpoint outside Lawrence boarding house, drove to woods in Methuen and sexually assaulted on May 23, 2010.
