Train strikes car in Andover; commuters on Haverhill line delayed

ANDOVER — Dozens of commuters were delayed after a Haverhill-bound passenger train struck a car near Essex Street last night.

The vehicle was impeding the track, according to Rhiannon D’Angelo, spokeswoman for Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority commuter rail. No injuries were reported.

The 5:35 p.m. train headed for Haverhill struck the automobile that had impeded the track, D’Angelo said.

Three other trains, 6:25 inbound and 6:20 and 6:55 outbound, also experienced delays. Police released the tracks around 8:10 p.m.
