Shot fired near Lawrence elementary school

LAWRENCE — Police were notified at about 2:30 p.m. that shots were heard in the neighborhood of the South Lawrence East School and Lawrence High School.

Both schools were put on lockdown as a safety precaution.

Police asked for a lockdown of the schools so they could search the area before the schools were dismissed.

After checking the area, both lockdowns were lifted and students were released from school.

Police stayed on the scene as students left the schools.

Lawrence Police could not be reached for comment.
