Police seek attempted murder suspect

SALEM, N.H. — Police are searching for a Methuen man who allegedly tried to murder a woman at a local motel Saturday evening.

Walton F. Valentin, 30, with a last known address in Methuen, faces multiple charges after an incident at Park View Inn that left a woman with severe head injuries, Deputy police Chief Shawn Patten said.

Valentin is considered armed and dangerous, Patten said.

The victim told police the incident started in Lawrence, where Valentin jumped into her minivan and held a gun to her stomach. He threatened to kill her family in the Dominican Republic, Patten said.

The two traveled to Salem and, once in the motel room, Valentin allegedly pointed the gun at the woman and pulled the trigger. The gun jammed, Patten said, and Valentin choked the woman and struck her repeatedly in the head with the gun.

The victim was knocked out but called police when she regained consciousness. She was taken to Parkland Medical Center in Derry for treatment.

Police later found her stolen van in Andover.

Salem, Lawrence and Methuen police are still searching for Valentin, Patten said. He has numerous active warrants in Massachusetts, according to police.

The warrants for his arrest from Salem include charges of attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault, kidnapping with injury, criminal threatening, violation of a protective order and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
