A Lowell man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Lawrence man in June. But the shooter remains at-large.
Juan Ferrer, 19, was shot to death early on the morning of June 19 on Chapel Street in Lowell, where he had gone the night before for a cookout with friends.
The father of a 2-month-old girl, he was pronounced dead at Lowell General Hospital shortly after 2:30 a.m.
On Thursday, Jimmy Kan, 19, was charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the shooting, and for default warrants in two unrelated cases, according to a press release from the Middlesex County District Attorney's office. He was arrested by the Lowell Police Department with assistance from the state police Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshal's Service.
Police say Kan assisted the shooter by helping him leave the scene of the crime and by disposing of evidence.
The shooter remains on the loose, according to Lowell police, but they do have a suspect.
Kan was arraigned Thursday in Lowell District Court and ordered held on $20,000 cash bail by Judge Michael Allard-Madaus, according to the district attorney's office. He is due back in court on Oct. 1 for a pre-trial conference.
The investigation into Ferrer's murder is ongoing. Anyone with information they believe might be helpful to the investigation can contact state police at 781-897-660 or Lowell police at 978-937-3200.
