Woman injured in early-morning shooting

Reports say victim had just left house party

LAWRENCE — A woman was rushed to Lawrence General Hospital early today after she was shot at 114 Bennington St., in the city's northeast section off Lawrence Street.

"Right now, the Lawrence police is actively investigating the shooting of a woman and has secured the area to check for evidence," Lawrence Police Lt. Shawn Conway said early this morning. "It's early in the process and we have no suspects."

Police first received reports of a woman shot around 12:45 a.m. People at the scene said the wounded woman had left a house party in the neighborhood just before the shooting. There were reports that the woman was shot in the stomach. Police had no information on the identity, age, or condition of the victim this morning.

State police and sheriff's deputies joined police at the crime scene.
