Letter: Suspend meals tax to support Restaurant Week

To the editor:

I commend Mayor Stephen Zanni on his support of the first annual Restaurant Week here in Methuen. I agree with him that the city’s success is “directly tied to the success of our business community.”

With this in mind I call on the mayor to take his support of Restaurant Week and of local business a step further by suspending the city “meals tax” for the duration of Restaurant Week. Restaurants in Methuen are doing their part by offering lower rates, the city should follow suit and do the same. This would add a further incentive to citizens to participate as well as reiterate the city’s pro-business image.

Restaurant Week will hopefully become a longstanding tradition here in Methuen as we celebrate the diverse dining options the city has to offer. Let’s make a “meals tax” holiday part of that celebration.
