Letter: Finegold is best choice for state Senate

To the editor:

I’ve known state Sen. Barry Finegold for a number of years and have seen first-hand how hard he works for families. Over the years, when people I knew needed help, I would recommend that they seek help from Barry. I saw him helping families and I admired him for that. On July 2, 2011, I found myself being one of those families that needed Barry’s help. My son Christopher suffered a spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down. Barry was an incredible advocate for my family.

No words will ever describe the fear I faced while my son was lying in a hospital bed at Massachusetts General — unable to move any of his limbs. When I tried to find the best quality health care for my son, I ran into many road blocks. I reached out to Sen. Finegold for help. Barry relentlessly advocated on Chris’ behalf in dealing with the insurance companies to make certain that Chris got the care that he needed and access to necessary equipment to help in his recovery. Barry continues to check in on Chris and his progress to this day.

Recently, as a member of the Health Care Financing Committee, Barry supported a bill that would increase funding for the Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund, which provides funding opportunities for cutting-edge spinal cord injury research in Massachusetts. This really meant a lot to Chris, who could someday benefit from this research and someday recover from this devastating injury.

Barry Finegold doesn’t vote or act a certain way because of his political persuasion. He does what he believes is right! I’ve worked with Barry on a professional basis – representing home ownership rights – and he votes for what he believes is right. On a personal level, he relentlessly advocated for my family, and I know he will continue to do the same while representing families within his district. I would highly recommend Barry as the senator of choice – he makes a difference every day.
