Letter: New school finances don’t add up

To the editor:

“If you can’t afford the taxes, move!”

I recently heard this remark in discussing the proposed new school. I found this remark rude and insulting.

We have lived in our home for almost 40 years. We are the taxpayers who paid for the Golden Brook School, Center School addition, middle school, high school and kindergarten. Our children attended Windham schools. Our daughter is a high school teacher. I am a retired educator with 35-plus years in education, 24 of those years as a principal.

We believe in and have supported education.

The numbers for the proposed new school do not add up! What will add up and up are our taxes.

So, in response to the rude comment, we are not selling our house. We are keeping our home and voting “No!”
