Letter: Thanks for support of holiday party

To the editor:

Although the weather was more than a little dreary, plenty of warmth and holiday spirit was on hand as several town departments and community groups joined together to offer Georgetown elders a wonderful holiday party at Trestle Way last week.

With holiday lights twinkling in the festively decorated community room, the afternoon featured plenty of holiday warmth and cheer as the Housing Authority and Council on Aging (COA) hosted a party for more than 80 elders. Not only did the afternoon highlight the holiday spirit enjoyed at this time of year, but the event demonstrates the strength of the partnership between town departments and community groups as they serve and enhance the lives of elders in Georgetown.

Filling the room with the scent of pine and fresh flowers, poinsettias and centerpieces featuring holiday greens created by the Georgetown Country Gardeners brightened festively clad tables. Elders attending the event enjoyed a luncheon buffet prepared and served by COA staff, COA board members and the Friends of the Council on Aging. Along with providing volunteer support, the Friends of the COA funded the cost of the luncheon and provided home-made desserts. Georgetown Police Chief James Mulligan and Lt. David Thomson visited with guests as organist Chandler Noyes provided a backdrop of holiday music, funded by the Georgetown Cultural Council.

On behalf of the Georgetown Council on Aging, I would like to thank Housing Authority Director Diane Drinan, Police Chief James Mulligan, Lt. David Thomson, the Friends of the Council on Aging, the Georgetown Country Gardeners and the Georgetown Cultural Council as well as all of the volunteers who worked so hard to make the event an enjoyable afternoon for elders within our community.
