Letter: A response to letter writer's Obama fears

To the editor:

I think Nathan Clark (”Letter: This election must be about competence,” Sept 24) might be confusing himself with Nathan Hale. Perhaps with a little information we can help correct some of his misgivings.

Vladimir Putin is not going to go out of his way to meddle in our business; it is not in the Russians’ best interests.

On your second point, it will take China 15 years to catch up with our naval might. Should we attack them now? Iran does not at this time have a nuclear weapon, nor a proper delivery device. Iran knows that, should it acquire one and try to set it off, it would become nothing but a bad memory.

I do feel safer than four years ago, by the way. The world in general respects us much more now (remember the “Coalition of the Willing”?) than before. Mr. Clark, perhaps you should ask Osama bin Laden how big the stick is that our president carries.

The job situation could be better if the Republican House had given some support to the president’s job bill.

There is plenty of work needed to be done on our roads, bridges, sewage and water infrastructure. These things cannot fix themselves and will not improve with time.

You mention gas prices, but we are drilling more now than any time in the last 25 years and import less. The president does not control the price of oil; the speculators and commodities markets do that.

You may be more paranoid but I am not, and please tell me who took your pay check and redistributed it. I am willing to try to get it back for you.
