Letter: Toohey is best choice for state Senate

To the editor:

On Tuesday Nov. 6, the voters of the First Essex District will make an important choice of who will represent them in the state Senate. All four candidates are good people but I believe the choice is clear and the best person to represent all of us in the First Essex District is Shaun Toohey. I don’t make this decision based upon party lines or ideology as I am an independent. I make this choice based upon Shaun’s record as a member of the Haverhill School Committee, his experience as a small business owner and his passion to make a difference in the lives of those he serves.

Having served with Shaun for almost nine years on the School Committee, I witnessed first-hand him work with both sides to come to a common ground that makes sense for the children of the City of Haverhill. Shaun has done a tremendous job of protecting taxpayer’s dollars as a member of the School Committee while always doing what’s best for kids. He has always been open and accessible to those he serves. I have no doubt he will do the same on Beacon Hill.

Shaun will focus on three important issues; putting people back to work, lowering the tax burden on middle-class families and being tough on crime by supporting tough laws on habitual criminal offenders and providing the needed resources to the law enforcement community.

Shaun and I started as two people hoping to make a difference in their city by running for the Haverhill School Committee. I have had the pleasure to get to know Shaun Toohey the man over the past nine years. Shaun is not only an elected official with a proven track record of results, he is a successful businessman, a trustworthy friend and most importantly, an excellent husband to his wife, Tatum, and a great father too his two children, Jack and Delaney. I hope you will join me on Nov. 6 in casting your ballot for Shaun Toohey as our next state senator.
