Letter: Persecution of the Church will continue under Obama

To the editor:

The Catholic Church is under persecution by President Obama and his administration.

Ever since Jesus established the Church, man has tried to destroy it. When Jesus was born, it was Herod, then the Scribes and Pharisees, then Pilate who handed Jesus over to be crucified, then the people who shouted: “Crucify Him.” All tried to destroy the Church. After Jesus’ crucifixion they went after His Apostles, most of whom were martyred. Some of the early popes were martyred. Saint Paul was beheaded.

Persecution continued through the ages. They persecuted the Church by murdering priests, taking possession of church property, burning churches, killing people professing Christianity. Thousands of priests were not afraid to die for their faith when the state came after them. They didn’t give in to intimidation and threats.

What the Catholic Church is going through now is more subtle, but I believe President Obama is trying to dismantle the Catholic Church, its hospitals and its schools. He has a lot of help from within, by people who call themselves Catholic.

Vice President Joe Biden promotes Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the country; Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius did President Obama’s bidding for the contraception, sterilization, abortion mandate. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi says a conscience clause for those who oppose abortion (which she supports) would be “savage.” Caroline Kennedy at the Democratic Convention promoted abortion; Melinda Gates is funding contraception for poor women worldwide. There are many other Catholics in the public eye, who believe abortion, contraception, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia and same sex unions are acceptable and they promote them to the confusion of many other Catholics.

The Catholic Church teaches abortion, contraception, euthanasia and same-sex unions are intrinsic evils. By promoting these evils, these people are weakening an already weakened Church.

President Obama, who sees this weakness very clearly, contributes to the growth of all these intrinsic evils and a vote for him is a vote for more persecution of the Church.
