Monday

Pizza and basketball

Americans will eat more than 100 acres of pizza a day during the 2007 NCAA collegiate basketball tournament this month. There are 463 basketball courts in an acre, so that means fans will consume enough pizzas during March Madness to fill nearly 1 million basketball courts.

Tuesday

Good egg hunting

Through April 1, the public is encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to participating downtown Amesbury businesses in exchange for an Easter egg filled with goodies as part of the "Be a Good Egg" program. The food is being collected for Our Neighbor's Table, which serves weekly free dinners in Amesbury. The eggs will include coupons good for 10 percent off any purchases made during the weekend of March 31 and April 1. Additionally, some "golden" eggs will include gift certificates to many of Amesbury's fine restaurants, retailers and service providers. Posters will be hung throughout the downtown naming participating businesses by the sponsor, the Downtown Business Association. For more, contact event chairwoman Julia Tarr at 978-388-5254.

Happy trails

Summer vacations are just around the corner, and that means many people are planning their annual trip. What to pack? And what to pack it in?

Here are some tips for buying new bags:

* If the luggage has wheels, make sure they're inset. Wheels attached to the outside tend to break easily.

* Make sure the extendable handle comes up to a comfortable height.

* Don't use locks. Anything that dangles can get caught in luggage handling systems, and they don't provide any worthwhile security either. (Scripps Howard)

Thursday

Reel world

If you haven't seen it yet, check out the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" today. In the new film, humankind's only hope against a disgruntled tech-industrialist's plan for world domination rests with a team of ninja-trained turtles who live in the sewers of Manhattan: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael. But first they have to get over the humiliation they suffered at the hands of their arch nemesis - a defeat that caused the Turtles to grow apart.

Friday

Bee healthy

Today marks the second annual celebration of World Apitherapy Day, an event designed to enhance international understanding of the therapeutic use and health benefits of bee products. Apitherapy is the use of beehive products such as honey, propolis, bee-collected pollen, beeswax, drone larvae extract, bee venom and royal jelly to maintain good health and in the treatment of a variety of medical conditions.
