HAVERHILL -- Little Orphan Annie is making her way to Haverhill, as the Spotlight Playhosue brings its production of this classic Depression-era story to the local high school auditorium.
In the depths of the 1930s, Annie (13-year-old Katie Lowell of Georgetown) is a fiery young girl living in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan (Rina Cerrulli of Melrose). Her seemingly hopeless situation changes dramatically when she is selected to spend a short time at the residence of a wealthy industrialist, Oliver Warbucks (Kevin Wilson, North Andover).
Annie quickly charms the household staff, including Grace Farrell (Meghan Dalton of Beverly). Even the seemingly cold-hearted Warbucks cannot help but learn to love this wonderful girl.
Darell Keene of Haverhill directsthe show, which also includes a group of 20 energetic orphan girls, as well as a supporting cast of adults and teens from Haverhill and the surrounding towns. Then, of course, there is the lovable mutt, Sandy (Mini Me, a 22-month-old puppy from Georgetown).
