Events will satisfy musical cravings

LAWRENCE — Live Lawrence! begins its fourth season of free concerts at the Lawrence Farmer's Market, bringing an eclectic musical element to the city's already diverse event.

The free, summer-long concerts are family-oriented and feature musical genres from reggae and country, to Latin and beyond on Appleton Way in Lawrence on Wednesdays during the Farmer's Market.

"We are having the concerts to draw people into the Farmer's Market and downtown Lawrence," said Sandra Frechette, event project manager.

"We also have a coupon program for local businesses, so that people coming to the concerts will be able to come into Lawrence to see and use the businesses there and in the mill area."

Music from such performers as Burnin' Roots, Jandee Lee Porter, Teresa Ines, Dale Reynolds, Los Sugar Kings, and a Boston Music Award Nominee Ryan Thomson is scheduled.

Beyond the lunchtime concert series, Frechette said Live Lawrence! will once again be sponsoring its Traveling Cafés, which are outdoor concerts that take place Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. and feature musical performances with catering from local businesses.

The season will come to a close on Sunday, Oct. 11, with its Canal IllumiNations festival. This family-friendly event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence Heritage State Park and have free entertainment, live performances, and other fun activities.
