---- — NORTH ANDOVER – The celebrated Boston band Session Americana will bring their zany and unique performance to the Crossroads Coffeehouse in North Andover on Saturday night.
The band, which describes itself as “a rock band in a tea cup, or perhaps a folk band in a whiskey bottle,” has won many awards on the Boston music scene. The newest album, “Love and Dirt,” is root music with a twist.
“The band just relaxes and has a great time, and that comes across,” said Jeff Chitouras of Under the Radar Recordings.
Chitouras runs the sound at Crossroad Coffeehouse events.
“Their music is accoustic, but it isn’t slow,” he said. “There is a wonderful energy in their music.”
“Who cares what it is?” asked Carolyn Cronin, coordinator for Crossroad Coffeehouse, when trying to pin a genre on the band. “It’s unbelievable harmony, and huge use of instruments. They could play anything. Session Americana is the epitomy of why we do this stuff.”
The Crossroads Coffeehouse has been bringing live music to North Andover for 24 years. The coffeehouse puts on eight shows every year, bringing in quality, professional musicians from an array of musical styles.
“We bring in people you shouldn’t even try to categorize,” Cronin said. “We bring in anything that we feel will work in the room, and we get phenomenally talented people. It is pure music for the love of live music.”
Chitouras added, “People in the North Andover area would love the music, if they were aware of it. There is always great energy no matter what style of music we have.”
Crossroads Coffeehouse presents concerts on the second Saturday of each month from November through May. The coffeehouse is all volunteer run. It’s a smoke and alcohol-free environment: While you can’t enjoy a cold beer at the show, you will have access to an array of desserts, coffees, and tea.
