Creative appetizers are very memorable, and make parties a real hit. The bad thing about them is that they are often hard to make and never come out as pretty as they do in a picture.

We found a solution for you: simple and creative garden-inspired tomato appetizers! This truly easy and colorful treat serves as both a centerpiece and appetizer.

All you need are cherry tomatoes, scallions and goat cheese. After that, you’ll need 5 minutes or less to prepare a really photo-worthy appetizer for your next get-together with friends.

6 cherry tomatoes

1 ounce goat cheese (or cream cheese)

2 green onions, scallions or chives

1/2 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)

1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

oregano, basil, garlic (optional)


Take a tomato and cut the top in a cross-like fashion. With a small spoon, dig out the inside seeds and discard.

Scoop a half-teaspoon (or until tomato is full) of goat cheese into the hollowed-out tomato. You may also use cream cheese if desired. In order to amplify and sharpen the taste, you can spice up the cheese with herbs such as basil, oregano and fresh grated garlic. Flavor with salt and pepper to taste.

Stick a toothpick into the bottom of the tomato, and dress it with a green onion, just shorter in length than the toothpick. This will make it look like a flower stem.

Pin the “flowers” into a vegetable, such as a zucchini. Cut the bottom of the zucchini to make a stable platform.

Enjoy as a centerpiece and appetizer.
