Area artists once again found spots around the Merrimack Valley to create works to be auctioned at Essex Art Center’s New Paint Art Auction.
“The event is the Essex Art Center’s annual fundraiser, supporting art classes for the children and adults in the Greater Lawrence community,” “ said Cathy McLaurin, director of Beland Gallery and special projects coordinator for Essex Art Center,
The auction is at 8 p.m., Friday, June 6, at the Stevens Estate in North Andover.
Twenty-nine artists participated in the event May 31, when they began and completed ready-to-hang art for the auction.
“They’re all artists mostly from the Merrimack Valley,” McLaurin said. “Primarily painters, but there are artists working in other media, as well.”
The one-day painting session is “the format we’ve used each year,” McLaruin said. “They’re all working at different sites outdoors, around the Merrimack Valley. For the most part they are landscapes and urban-scapes, also usually some still-lifes and interiors of places.”
Their work is on exhibit at the Essex Art Center and will be sold at the live auction at 8 p.m., Friday, following a 6 p.m. silent auction of other artwork that was produced in the studio, such as ceramics and photography.
The 16th annual new paint event will feature NECN Meteorologist Matt Noyes as auctioneer. Josh Miner and the Stevens foundation will be recognized for 20 years of funding support to Essex Art Center. Outgoing founding Executive Director Leslie Costello will be honored.
