Nothing beats a well seasoned, perfectly crisped plate of hot Buffalo Wings.
Originating in Buffalo, N.Y., these beloved deep-fried chicken wings are a staple bar and pub food around the nation. While wings can come in an assortment of different flavors, to wing enthusiasts Buffalo Wings mean one thing: HEAT.
Chad Lothian of Bangor, Maine and author of the beer blog “If My Coasters Could Talk,” is not one to shy away from a spicy mountain of buffalo wings. Says Lothian, “When I am out at the pub, one of my favorite things to order is a nice big plate of Buffalo Wings.”
A hearty helping of wings on his plate brings along with it a hearty helping of spicy seasoning. To cleanse the palate and keep you coming back for more wings, Lothian suggests drinking a tall pint of Sebago Brewing Company’s (located in Bangor) Freye’s Leap IPA.
Generally speaking, India Pale Ales tend to have a heavy malt backbone, giving them a signature rich flavor. Freye’s Leap IPA adds an extra hint of caramel that not only delivers a mild sweetness to your palate, it also gives the beverage a golden-brown hue.
Says Lothian, “The hops in the beer will help slash through that (Buffalo Wing) heat and neutralize the whole dish, keeping your palate cleansed and ready for more.”
