ACT to bring 'Les Mis' to Andover

If you stop by 250 Canal St. in Lawrence this fall, you will hear some familiar songs sounding through the windows of the building’s fourth floor.

That’s where ACT Theater Company is in rehearsals for its biggest musical performance undertaking to date, “Les Misérables.” With a cast of more than 80 local children and adults, this beloved musical comes to the J. Everett Collins Center at Andover High School from Oct. 25 to 27.

“Les Misérables” celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2010 and with the release of the blockbuster movie in December 2012, this musical has been introduced to a new generation.

The complete adult script for “Les Misérables,” based on the novel by Victor Hugo, only recently was released for availability on a local community theater level. ACT Theater Company is one of the first groups in the state, and the first in Merrimack Valley, to perform this famous show.

“It is an incredible pleasure and privilege to be working with such an amazing cast, on such a famous show,” said Mark Gracy, director of “Les Misérables” and executive producer of ACT. “It’s rare to meet someone these days who has never heard a song from “Les Mis,” so for me, and most in the cast, to be able to perform this show in its totality is the experience of a lifetime.”

With a professionally designed set and costumes, a 25 piece orchestra, and a phenomenal cast, this production promises to thrill theatergoers.

“Les Misérables” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.. Its book is by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg; music by Claude-Michel Schönberg; and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer.
