LAWRENCE -- The local band Prospect Hill has come a long way from its roots when two Lawrence boys decided to make music together back in the early 2000s, to its tour that kicked off last week highlighted by a performance with Alice in Chains and other big-name rockers.
The band recently won the 2013 Boston Rockstar Energy Uproar Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands, providing a kick-start for the current tour.
In the Battle of the Bands, an online competition for up-and-coming musicians, Prospect Hill held a 98 percent popularity rating and was voted second best in the country.
“We are so thankful to our fans for making this happen. They made this happen. We appreciate everything they do and for supporting us,” said drummer Mark Roberge in a phone interview in advance of the tour which started with a performance at the Comcast Center in Mansfield on Wedensday.
In Addition to performing with Alice in Chains at the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival in Mansfiled, Prospect Hill also got up-close-and-personal with other big acts including Jane’s Addiction, Coheed and Cambria, and Circa Survive, among others.
Prospect Hill will continue the tour with stops in Ohio, Michigan, Maine, New York, Iowa, Arizona, Minnesota, Maryland, Louisiana, Alabama, North Carolina, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Roberge and guitarist Derek Rousseau began playing together as kids growing up in Lawrence. In 2005, vocalist Adam Fithian, of Manchester By the Sea; bassist/vocalist Edgar Troncoso of Methuen; and guitarist John Roberge of Methuen came together and formed Prospect Hill. The band released the albums, “For the Lovers the Haters and the Dead,” in 2008, and “Prospect Hill” in 2009.
A third album, “Impact,” released in 2011, became a hit, and their fan base blossomed. Its hit single, “Manchester,” penned by Fithian, is a powerful ode to his hometown, describing life on tour and being away from family and friends.
