A Safe Place serves up The Platters

Holiday entertainment gets off to a strong start as Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famers, Herb Reed’s Platters, come to The Music Hall in Portsmouth, N.H., for a night of entertainment and fund-raising.

“The Platters: The Legacy,” features guest songstress Carol O’Shaughnessy performing golden hits including “Only You,” “The Great Pretender, and “Twilight Time,” as well as holiday classics.

One of the most successful groups of the early Rock-and-Roll era, The Platters hit the scene and quickly bridged the gap between Tin Pan Alley tradition and the burgeoning new rock genre in the 1950s. The band charted hits on the Billboard Hot 100 through 1967.

Guest O’Shaughnessy has been touted as “Boston’s First Lady of Cabaret,” and is known for her mix of stories and music, as well as a warm sense of humor.

Sacred Heart Youth Choir also will make a special appearance.

All profits from this show, which begins at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, benefit A Safe Place, which provides services and shelter to help fight domestic violence in Rockingham and Strafford counties. Founded in 1976, the organization’s mission is to prevent and eliminate domestic abuse.
