A cocktail for the season Bourbon and cola

Bourbon is a distinctly American spirit, connoting images of Southern living and summer cocktails.

As a square is to a rectangle, bourbon is always a type of whiskey, but whiskey is not always bourbon. Legally, whiskey is only truly bourbon if it is made in America and is made from between 51 percent and 79 percent corn. Bourbon is amber colored and usually a bit sweeter and heavier than generic whiskey. Ninety-five percent of bourbon is made in Kentucky, making it a truly Southern beverage. Add mint and sugar for a Mint Julep or citrus and sugar for an Old Fashioned to enjoy a classic, American cocktail on a hot summer afternoon.

Expert bartender Zach Wilks gives infused bourbon a twist of cherry and cola, creating a refreshing and delicious drink for any occasion. The simplicity is perhaps most appealing: simply pour infused bourbon over ice, add cherry and then pour on as much cola as you please. The result is a classic drink that is sure to refresh guests at an outdoor get together or summer dinner.

Bourbon Cola Cocktail

Ingredients

2 ounces cherry and, or vanilla infused bourbon (or use whiskey)

3 Luxardo cherries

8 ounces cola

1 cup ice

Instructions

1. Fill glass with ice.

2. Pour infused bourbon over ice, filling glass about three-quarters of the way.

3. Add cherries on skewer.

4. Add cold cola to taste or serve on the side and enjoy.
