'Brigadoon': Pentucket Players to bring Broadway favorite to life

In May of 1971, the Living Presence Experimental Theatre put on a production of “Brigadoon” directed by the late Eileen Miller Jeans at Haverhill High School.

John Buzzell played the role of Mr. Lundie back then. Now, more than 40 yeras later, Buzzell is directing the Pentucket Players in the same Lerner & Loewe Broadway favorite musical at the Rogers Center for the Performing Arts at Merrimack College.

“Brigadoon” tells the story of an enchanted village located deep in the Highlands of Scotland, that appears only for one day every 100 years. The award-winning musical score features such memorable hits as “Almost Like Being In Love,” and the beautiful wedding song, “Come to Me; Bend to Me.”

Buzzell, a resident of Haverhill, is the executive artistic director for the Pentucket Players, which he co-founded 19 years ago. Alan Freedman of North Andover conducts the pit of 12 professional musicians, as well as serving as music director for the cast of more than 40 people. Original choreography, including the high-stepping “Sword Dance,” has been created by Annmarie Latulip of Lawrence, who also appears in the role of Bonnie Jean.
