Cranberries, cinnamon add spice to apple beverage

Aromatherapy abounds as the scent of cinnamon and apples fills your house while you simmer up this simple yet sophisticated Gourmet Cranberry and Apple Drink (especially if you serve it in a classy mug).

This beverage is comforting to your body, not only for its warmth, but also because apples and cranberries are “superfruits,” full of nutrients and antioxidants. That old saying should be revised. “An apple with cranberry a day keeps the doctor away.”

Gourmet Cranberry and Apple Drink

2 apples

1/2 cup dried cranberries

1/2 cup fresh cranberries

2 cups water

1/4 cup honey

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons raw sugar

1 teaspoon grated orange or lemon peel (optional)

Core, peel and slice apples. Place in a saucepan.

Add cranberries, water, honey, cinnamon, sugar and any optional ingredients to a saucepan.

Simmer over low to medium heat for about half hour to hour, or until ingredients have merged into a fragrant and tasty mixture.

Serve hot in your favorite mug.
