LAWRENCE — An emissions test machine and an auto air conditioner recharging machine were stolen from a South Union Street garage, police said.
Garry Lewis, owner of Lewis Motors, located in a fenced-in area behind the Enterprise Rent-A-Car building at 660 S. Union St., told police that sometime between 6 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. on Monday the garage had been entered and the equipment taken.
One of the machines, an auto emissions test machine, known as a "smoker," was taken, along with the box it is stored in. The box was described as tan and the machine as blue.
The "smoker" was valued at $1,500.
The second piece of equipment was the air conditioner recharging machine.
Described as a large piece of equipment that would take more than one person to lift, the machine is gray and blue and stands about 3 feet tall with it on wheels.
That machine was valued at $6,000, police said.
It appeared one of the garage doors was opened and the machine was lifted onto the back of a truck, police said.
The theft was reported at 8:58 a.m. Monday, police said.
