LAWRENCE - A North Andover man is facing an attempted murder charge after firing off three shots in the 200 block of Farnham Street on Monday evening.
Byron Garcia, 28, of 100 2nd St., was arrested and charged with armed assault with intent to murder, two counts of illegal possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and illegal discharge of a firearm with 500 feet of a building, police said.
Garcia arrived in the neighborhood with four others just before 6 p.m. Four men carrying baseball bats got out of the green car Garcia was allegedly driving. Then Garcia, armed with a dark handgun, got out of the car and fired three shots at nearby black Acura. Several men that were in the Acura fled towards Phillips Street, according to a report by officer Francis Bradley.
No injuries were reported to police. Garcia was arrested shortly after in North Andover.
Lawrence man cited after bicycle accident
A Fitz Street man was issued a citation Monday night after he allegedly struck a pedestrian with his car and left the accident scene, according to a police report.
William Lumsden, 29, of 24 Fitz St., #24, was issued a citation for leaving the scene of an accident after the 4:20 p.m. crash on Avon Street, according to a police report written by officer Nirisa Nicoletti.
Esau Santiago, 19, of 60 Avon St., and his brother, Orlando Santiago, 24, were riding their bikes home from work when Esau was struck by a black car.
The impact threw Santiago into the air and he landed on his left elbow. He was later transported to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
While the car did not stop, witnesses were able to take down the car's license plate, which came back to Lumsden, according to Nicoletti's report.
Great Dane quarantined after biting child
METHUEN - A Great Dane named "New York" was quarantined by the animal control officer after biting a 7-year-old boy on Elm Street Monday evening, police said.
The boy suffered a puncture wound and scratches on his right leg that did not require stitches and was bandaged, according to a police report.
The boy was bitten after asking to play with the 1-year-old Great Dane and his owner said no. The boy advanced towards the dog and was bitten. The dog released and immediately pulled back when his owner commanded him to stop, according to a police report by officer Joseph Aiello.
New York's owners said the Great Dane never bit anyone before and "has never shown signs of aggression," according to the police report.


Business break: About $300 in meat and shrimp stolen from a Broadway business after a back door was pried open and a screen cut, 11 a.m., Monday.
Mugging: 22-year-old man reported he was surrounded by eight to 10 youths at Berkeley and Knox streets and robbed of his I Phone, gold necklace and $200 cash. One of two of the males had knives, 12:15 a.m., Monday.
