LAWRENCE — Police arrested Jorge Guzman, 32, last night about 11:15 p.m. and charged him with two counts of assault and battery after he allegedly threw boiling water on his girlfriend and her two-year-old daughter Wednesday.
Aura Vasquez, 28, told police that Guzman had been drinking Wednesday night and was arguing with her in their 9 Portland St. apartment because he is jealous and thought she had "change."
Police said Vasquez told Officer Miguel Romero that when she asked her 6-year-old daughter to go to her bedroom, Guzman began to throw the kitchen chairs into the living room, damaging them.
She said Guzman then flipped over the kitchen table they had been sitting at and when she stood up and told him to calm down, he reached over to the stove and hurled a scalding hot pot of boiling chicken at her as her younger daughter stood beside her.
Vasquez received second- and third-degree burns to the right side of her face, chest, back, right inner thigh and both wrists. Her daughter received second- and third-degree burns to her face, right arm, shoulder, back and chest.
Both were taken to Lawrence General Hospital, but Vasquez was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital and her daughter was transferred to the Shriners Hospital for Children, police said.
Guzman will be arraigned today in Lawrence District Court on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, boiling water; assault and battery on a household member, mayhem, assault and battery on a child under 14, and malicious damage to property over $250.
Police also filed a 51A report of abuse or neglect with the state Department of Children and Families.
