The driver was parked in a handicap parking space in front of the building when she “somehow may have hit the gas, causing her vehicle to unexpectedly propel further,” Ouellette said.
The car hit another parked car before driving up on the sidewalk in front of the building, narrowly missing a pedestrian and eventually hitting the Center at Punchard.
Damage to the building was minor, mostly to the bottom of a window, according to Ouellette.
Police respond to rash of car breaks
ANDOVER — A number of vehicles were entered and searched by an unknown person on Poor and Kenilworth streets Wednesday night between 9:41 and 10:20 p.m.
Police were first called to the scene after a Poor Street resident reported that “he was looking out his window and noticed a light on in one of the vehicles.” The caller found that both of his vehicles had been entered and the doors were left open, according to police reports.
After responding to the first call, an officer in the area checked the rest of Poor Street and homes on nearby Kenilworth Street, where he found at least three more cars that had recently been searched, according to Ouellette.
Of those vehicles, only one of them had something stolen — a GPS navigation unit, from one of the cars on Kenilworth Street, Ouellette said.
All of the vehicles were left unlocked prior to the incident being reported, according to Ouellette.
