---- — LAWRENCE — A 15-year-old boy said he was attacked and almost had part of an ear bitten off when he was walking to the gym Wednesday night.

Police interviewed the victim at Lawrence General Hospital emergency room, where he was taken for treatment after a piece of his left ear was almost bitten off. The teen said he was walking to his boxing gym on Haverhill Street, when he noticed a baby blue Toyota coming down the street. The driver stopped and rolled down his window.

The two exchanged words, the driver got out and a fist fight erupted. The victim said his opponent outweighed him by 50 pounds and bit his left ear during the struggle, according to a report by Detective John Heggarty.

A passerby separated them but then the driver went back to his car and “retrieved a machete,” Heggarty wrote.

But the passerby allegedly intervened again, holding back the driver, who eventually left the area.

The suspect is described a stocky, muscular built, big forehead, short nose and fat cheeks, Heggarty wrote.

The incident remains under investigation.

Three boys charged with break-in at Methuen DPW yard

METHUEN — Three boys from Salem, N.H., were arrested Wednesday afternoon at the city transfer station for trespassing after they stole spare keys and started up heavy equipment for a potential joy ride, police and DPW officials said.

Officials believe the boys — two are 13 and one is 12 — broke into the scale house Tuesday and took some of the spare keys kept in there. DPW employees boarded up the small building Wednesday.

But Wednesday afternoon, the boys returned, officials said, and used the keys to start up a front end loader. DPW chief Ray DiFiore said there was minor damage to the shed and no damage to any of the equipment there.

“They knew how to start it, but they didn’t know how to move it,” DiFiore said.

A storage shed also had been accessed, but nothing was missing from there.

They were all charged with breaking and entering a building in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony.
