Methuen artist supports local animal rescue groups

METHUEN — Mayor Stephen Zanni has named Karla Cook as Methuen’s Artist of the Month for October 2012.

Cook’s philosophy is if you paint what you love, people will love what you paint. She focuses her work on a variety of subject matter, but believes her love of animals and her love of painting make for a winning combination.

Cook donates 10 percent of her profit from all paintings to various animal rescue groups throughout the Merrimack Valley.

“It is wonderful to see such a passionate artist and I am thrilled that Karla is so committed to giving back to the community,” said Zanni. “It is evident in her work that Karla truly loves what she does and I know anyone stopping by my office will be able to appreciate these pieces as well.”

The Artist of the Month Program was started six years ago to give members of Methuen’s art community a forum to display their work and to encourage participation in the city’s growing creative economy. Artists interested in being considered for Artist of the Month should contact Juliette Cormier at 978-983-8505.
