Pink flamingos ready to roost on lawns
Haverhill High School’s Hockey Boosters will hold their third annual pink flamingo fundraiser Nov. 4 through Nov. 21.
Flamingos might appear just about anywhere on Haverhill front lawns. Residents are asked not to harm the birds, which will roost at a site for a 24-hour period before migrating to another lawn. If a flamingo appears on your lawn and you would like to specify the next person’s (or victim’s) lawn, follow the instructions attached to the bird.
You can purchase anti-flocking insurance to assure they do not return to your home. You can purchase a single flamingo for $10 or a flock of flamingos to send to anyone within the city. If you purchase a flock of three or more, you will be entered into a drawing to win $100 cash. Whoever finds the Haverhill High School Thanksgiving Turkey roosting on their lawn on Thanksgiving morning will be the winner of the drawing. A member of the hockey team will deliver the prize on Thanksgiving day and will collect the turkey. For more information or to place an immediate order send your request to HHSHockeyBooster35@hotmail.com or MMalone35@hotmail.com. You can also HHS Hockey Boosters President Michelle Malone at 978-875-3588.

U.S. attorney general’s visit Nov. 8
U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz will speak at the first annual Girls Have a Dream and Birthday Bash Celebration presented by Girls Inc. The event is Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. at the Renaissance Golf Club, 377 Kenoza St.
Since 2009, Ortiz has served as Massachusetts’ first female U.S. Attorney. She is the lead attorney prosecuting James (Whitey) Bulger on behalf of the federal government.
“Attorney Ortiz, with her background, hard work and success, epitomizes what our mission is – to create an environment where girls can learn to see their true potential through education and experience,” said Robin Whitson, executive director of Girls Inc.
The event will honor three women from the community — Mary Ellen Daly O’Brien, a registered nurse/case manager for Merrimack Valley Hospital and Haverhill’s only female city councilor; Molly Sullivan Sliney, a two-time Olympic winner and educational/motivational speaker to school-aged children; and Penelope Guerrero Perez, a member of the Girls Inc. community and a designer for the successful brand, Timberland.
The event includes a sneak preview of pictures taken by the girls at Girls Inc., which will be available for purchase in mid-November at the Shops@90 Washington Street. This event is supported by Pentucket Bank, Haverhill Bank and King Graphics. For tickets or sponsorship information, contact Robin Whitson at 978-372-0771, ext. 225.
