ANDOVER — A small group of residents has received the go-ahead for a candlelight vigil and walk on Wednesday, May 1, to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.
The vigil, scheduled to run from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m., will include a procession along The Park on Chestnut and Bartlet streets and down nearby Morton Street.
Event co-organizer Bill Pennington was around the mile 25 marker running this year’s marathon when the bombs went off, stopping runners in their tracks.
“One thing that helps the healing process is to come and meet, and chat, and share your stories,” Pennington said. “That’s what we’re going to focus on.”
Along with recognition of first responders, the event will feature opening remarks from former selectman Ted Teichert, a blessing and guest speakers. The walk itself will be led by a bag pipe procession, according to Pennington.
