---- — NORTH ANDOVER — Littering does not pay in North Andover.

Police caught two men who allegedly dumped refuse onto the landscape. A resident alerted police at 9:03 a.m. Friday that a man had just thrown a large bag of trash out of his car near Turnpike and Willow streets. Officer Brendan Gallagher pursued a car matching the description and pulled it over.

A computer check revealed that the driver, Peter Crowley, 27, of 47 Forest St., Middleton, had outstanding motor vehicle arrest warrants pending against him. Crowley was not charged with illegal dumping. His arrest on the warrants was a sufficient consequence, police Lt. Charles Gray said.

The following day, a resident reported at 12:24 p.m. that a man was dumping something into a swamp near Foster and Winter streets. When Officer Daniel Quinn confronted the man, he discovered he was dumping grass clippings.

The man did not know that he was doing something illegal, Gray said. Quinn advised him to dispose of his yard waste properly.
