Portsmouth woman killed in collision

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) — Police say a 78-year-old woman was killed in Portsmouth after her car crossed over the center lines and collided with an oncoming truck.

Portsmouth police responded around 10 a.m. Monday to an accident in which a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu traveling south on West Main Road crossed over the double yellow lines near Locust Avenue and hit a 2008 Isuzu box truck. The driver of the Malibu was taken to Newport Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police have not released her name. She is from Portsmouth.

The driver of the truck, 52-year-old Richard McKenna of Palmer, Mass., was also taken to Newport Hospital. Police said his injuries appeared to be minor.

The accident is being investigated.
