Friends plan to take part in Avon Breast Cancer Walk

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — At 5 a.m. most mornings Shannon Kryzynski of Methuen and Jill Timmons of North Andover can be found at Choice Fitness in Methuen, walking between 5 and 10 miles before work.

It is preparation for their participation in the Avon Breast Cancer Wallk this weekend in Boston.

Together they will walk 39.3 miles over two days like they have done so four times before, dealing with issues such as blisters, sunburns, fatigue and bad knees.

What began four years ago because of a co-worker’s breast cancer diagnosis has now turned into a mission for these two women. Since then, their co-worker lost her battle and Timmons lost her aunt Helen to the disease. Shortly after the loss of her aunt, a family friend of Kryzynski’s was diagnosed and is currently going through treatments.

Both women work for Dr. Michael Gogjian in North andover. He has been supportive to them both in their efforts. Many patients know about the Avon Walk and have donated in the name of a loved one, or even for themselves.

Each intention is represented with a pink ribbon that they carry on their backpack, their first year there were two ribbons and last year they had over 100, each with a name of someone who they are walking for.

Kryzynski and Timmons say taking part in the walks has been inspirational for them. Together, they have walked more than 150 miles over the years.
