NORTH ANDOVER — A 22-year-old man fell 18 to 20 feet from a roof at Merrimack College on Monday afternoon, police said.
He was transported to Lawrence General Hospital and the accident was reported to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, according to the police log.
Merrimack College police provided the main response, according to Lt. Charles Gray, spokesman for the North Andover Police Department. The incident was reported at 4:24 p.m. Monday.
Whenever someone falls more than 6 feet, paramedics from Lawrence General Hospital are notified and they come to the scene with backboards, cervical collars and other equipment used to treat the victim of a fall, North Andover fire Lt. John Weir explained.
Merrimack College police referred all questions to Bethany LoMonaco, spokeswoman for the college. She had not responded to an email from The Eagle-Tribune as of press time last night.
While it could not be definitely established last night if the man was working on a roof, there is a great deal of construction activity at the college, which is building dormitories for an increasing number of students and expanding the Volpe Athletic Center.
