Rivera offers internship for college students interested in government

LAWRENCE — Mayor Daniel Rivera is offering an internship program for college students interested in pursuing a career in government or public administration.

Two students will be selected for each semester, with the spring program set to run for nine weeks, starting March 10 through May 9.

Duties include assisting the department with daily operations, such as answering the phone and returning messages from constituents, drafting letters, in-taking mail and other administrative tasks. Applicants must have strong interpersonal skills and professional communication skills.

Applications are available at the mayor’s office or downloading it from the city’s homepage at www.cityoflawrence.com under “Quick Links.”

“I am excited about bringing our future leaders into the mayor’s office,” Rivera said. “The students will receive first-hand experience in working with constituent services and serving the city of Lawrence.”

In addition to the application, prospective interns need to provide a copy of their driver’s license or college ID, a copy of their most recent college transcript. They should also send a typed 400-words maximum cover letter explaining what you hope to gain from the internship experience and why they should be considered for it. A letter of recommendation by a professor or other faculty member or previous employer is recommended, but not required.

Letters may be included in the application, or sent directly to the office via email at edelgado@cityoflawrence.com

Completed applications are due by 4 p.m., Feb. 28 at City of Lawrence, Mayor’s Office Internship Program, Room 309, 200 Common St., Lawrence, MA 01840
