Woman arrested on heroin charges

LAWRENCE — Interim Police Chief James Fitzpatrick credited two observant patrol officers with being a key to a recent seizure of more than 200 grams of heroin from a second floor apartment at 255 Bailey St.

“Officers Ariel Montas and Hal Rogers alerted the Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit to the drug paraphernalia and the drugs they had observed in plain view,” Fitzpatrick said.

The officers’ observations prompted police to obtain a search warrant, which led to the seizure of 227.3 grams of heroin, 16 grams of cocaine and close to $500 in cash.

The target of the drug unit’s investigation was Ismely Toribio, 26, of 255 Bailey St., who was already in police custody for an outstanding arrest warrant for assault. She was charged with trafficking in more than 200 grams of heroin and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

“At about $50 a gram, the street value is over $10,000,” Fitzpatrick said of the heroin.
